Every Season Has a Flavor
In Kyoto, the seasons are vivid and present — cherry blossoms in spring, humid summer heat, brilliant autumn foliage, and quiet winter frost. Our drinks team creates each seasonal menu to reflect these changes, using fresh local produce, traditional Japanese ingredients, and a few international inspirations.
All drinks are available hot or cold unless noted. Sugar levels can be adjusted on request. Children's portions are available at slightly reduced sizes and prices.
Spring Drinks — March to May
Spring in Kyoto means sakura — and our spring drinks menu celebrates this most beloved of seasons. Light, floral, and gently sweet, these drinks are made for slow mornings and cherry blossom viewing.
Sakura Lemonade
House-pressed lemon juice with sakura (cherry blossom) syrup, a pinch of salt, and sparkling water. Pale pink, delicate, and genuinely refreshing. Garnished with a dried cherry blossom.
Strawberry Milk
Freshly blended Kyoto-grown strawberries with whole milk and a touch of honey. No artificial coloring — the vivid red comes entirely from the fruit. Available warm or chilled.
Sakura Matcha Latte
Ceremonial matcha layered beneath steamed milk infused with sakura syrup. A seasonal blend that won't be on the menu long — order it while the blossoms last.
Summer Drinks — June to August
Kyoto summers are warm and humid — the kind of heat that calls for long, cold drinks enjoyed slowly in a cool spot. Our summer drinks are all about refreshment, freshness, and beating the heat in style.
Iced Matcha
Ceremonial matcha shaken over ice with a touch of honey and oat milk. The natural bitterness of matcha makes this the most refreshing cooling drink we know — and our bestseller every summer.
Yuzu Soda
House-pressed yuzu juice with honey syrup, sparkling water, and a sprig of fresh mint. Citrusy, lively, and completely non-alcoholic — perfect for adults and children alike.
Mango Lassi
Sweet Alphonso mango blended with creamy yogurt, cardamom, and a pinch of sea salt. Rich, cooling, and beautifully thick — a welcome retreat from the summer sun.
Autumn Drinks — September to November
When the maple leaves turn in Kyoto, there is no more beautiful place to hold a warm drink. Our autumn menu is rich, spiced, and comforting — built for long evenings and family gatherings.
Pumpkin Spice Latte
Roy's version of the autumn classic — roasted Japanese pumpkin blended into the espresso base, topped with steamed milk, cinnamon, and a dusting of nutmeg. Warm, earthy, and deeply satisfying.
Chestnut Milk Tea
Black tea steeped strong, sweetened with roasted chestnut syrup, and finished with steamed milk. An autumn taste that feels unmistakably Japanese — gentle and full of depth.
Hojicha Caramel Latte
Roasted hojicha tea with house-made caramel syrup and steamed milk. Low in caffeine and warm in every sense — an ideal evening drink for the whole family.
The Warmest Season of the Year
Autumn brings a particular kind of magic to Roy's Family Cafe. The leaves outside our large windows turn amber and gold, the warm drinks menu expands, and families seem to linger a little longer over their cups. There's something about autumn in Kyoto that makes every gathering feel more meaningful.
We keep the cafe warm, the music soft, and the drink portions generous throughout autumn. Our annual Chestnut and Pumpkin Drinks Festival runs throughout October — with limited-edition specials each week and a special kids' hot chocolate bar.
View Seasonal EventsWinter Drinks — December to February
Kyoto winters are quiet and crisp. Our winter drinks menu is all about warmth — drinks that heat you from the inside and make even the coldest days feel cozy and bright.
Hot Cocoa
Pure cacao melted with warm milk, a trace of vanilla, and a generous heap of steamed froth. Topped with homemade marshmallows in winter — simple and deeply comforting.
Spiced Apple Cider
Freshly pressed apple juice warmed with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and a slice of orange. Non-alcoholic and aromatherapy for the senses — the whole cafe smells wonderful when this is on.
Yuzu Honey Tea
Warming yuzu tea sweetened with local Kyoto honey and a thin slice of fresh yuzu peel. A traditional Japanese winter remedy that also happens to taste extraordinary.
